Aug. 20, 2019 -- The first hotel on the Wichita State campus is beginning construction. A 106-room Hyatt Place hotel will break ground next week on Wichita State’s Innovation Campus, within walking distance of the new Fuzzy’s Tacos, the Shocker Store and Starbucks.

Aug. 7, 2019 -- The Wichita State University campus will soon be home to a larger-than-life sculpture of its beloved WuShock mascot, thanks to Steve Clark – a longtime Greater Wichita YMCA board member, volunteer and donor – for whom the area’s tenth YMCA branch location will be named.

July 24, 2019 -- It’s easy to take the free t-shirts, halftime performances and musical chairs on the Charles Koch Arena basketball court for granted. But, during every Shocker Athletics game, a team of student marketing and game operations interns follows a carefully choreographed plan to make sure fans have a good time in between each play.

May 15, 2019 -- A device for the visually impaired has won the 2019 Koch Innovation Challenge, an annual competition for Wichita State University students.

May 7, 2019 -- Boosted Ideas Lab, a shot-art developer and confidence booster for developing basketball players, was the winner of the 2019 Shocker New Venture Competition at Wichita State University.

April 18, 2019 -- Wichita State students, according to YMCA president and CEO Ronn McMahon, accounted for around 28,500 visits during January and another 7,500 from students with family memberships. Wichita State students average around 25,000 visits a month.

April 16, 2019 -- Ryan Kendall, a senior from Pelham, Alabama, is a computer science major who took the long route to Wichita State’s Selected Team. He didn’t make the team as a freshman and spent the past two seasons on the Developmental Team. Wichita State coach Gordon Vadakin estimates around 10 percent of the bowlers who don’t make the team in their early years continue to try out for a spot on the Selected Team.

April 17, 2019 -- Khyati Mahavadia, from Ahmedabad, India, moved to Dallas in 2015. She considered a university in Texas before deciding Wichita State’s reputation and the applied learning opportunities connected with Wichita’s industry offered her the best position.

April 2, 2019 -- A plan to build a new Student-Athlete Success Center and renovate parts of Charles Koch Arena is moving forward.

April 1, 2019 -- Wichita State students Jessica Aldrich and Levi Lowe have been chosen by the national University Innovation Fellows program to attend the Silicon Valley Meetup as student event leaders.

March 29, 2019 -- Christian Ammerman, Secondary English Education and English Literature Arts major, was recently recognized as a University Innovation Fellow.

March 21, 2019 -- Wichita State's GoCreate space and the downtown Wichita Public Library are in a partnership to host classes and workshops.

March 8, 2019 -- Having direct access to students’ talent and skills is a huge part of why Airbus Americas moved to the Wichita State campus two years ago. One of those opportunities for collaboration played out perfectly this winter when Airbus officials in the research and technology department needed a last-minute artistic rendering for an airplane seat under development.
